ferry to Haines

Ketchikan

silt

glacier and whales

The views from the ship were incredible. We traveled the inside passage. Mountains and glaciers on both sides of the ship as we sailed the fjord. We saw whales, porpoises and eagles. The only port we actually got off and walked around was Ketchikan the first stop. We walked about three miles that day. It was nice to be outside and poking around a bit. All of the stops were small ports and had a short time in port. Yesterday we made stops Wrangell and Petersburg. This morning we stopped in Juneau and then Haines. The water is beautiful. Where rivers come into the ocean the water had an actual line of brown water, the silt from the mountains. It is very dramatic. We had someone from the Tongass National Forest on the ship and they did programs about the various ports and points of interest.
